An Exploration Place Birthday Party

Your Birthday Party Package is 2 hours of fun. The package includes admission to The Exploration Place which will allow your group to take in the Children's Gallery, Biome, George Phillips Exhibit Gallery, History Hall, and Dinosaur Gallery!
For some fresh air, stretch your legs, and visit Fort George Park, right outside The Exploration Place. Fort George Park has picnic sites, a children's water park, and a playground.
During the summer months (weather permitting) you can enjoy a ride on the Little Prince Steam Engine.

Your 2-Hour Birthday Party Package Includes:

  • Decorated private party room for up to 20 children
  • An Exploration Place "Trained Brain" to facilitate your party
  • 20-minutes of hands-on interactive science activities led by our "Trained Brain"
  • Admission to The Exploration Place exhibits and galleries for you and your guests
  • Access to The Exploration Place's kitchen (located on the main floor)
  • A free return pass to The Exploration Place for each child attending your party

  • Additional balloons and decorations Please note that all decorations must be free-standing and can not be attached to the walls by any means!

How to Book:

By phone: 250-562-1612 or in person Monday through Friday only during regular business hours (9 am-5 pm).  All parties must be booked at least 2 weeks in advance of the birthday party booking dates.

General Information:

  • Bookings are limited and will be treated on a first-come, first-served basis
  • A $40 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking
  • Full payment is due on the party day
  • Party offerings and costs are subject to change without notice
  • A minimum of 1 adult must attend the party

Cancellation / Refund Policy
Cancellations received 14 days or more prior to the Birthday Party date are refundable less a $40 administration fee.  There are no refunds for cancellations with less than 14 days' notice.

Critter Parade - ages 3 and up | Members $175+tax      Non-members $200+tax

The children will be visited by three of our friendly museum animals, and learn about the trio-such as their eating habits and living conditions, both in the wild and here, at the museum! On top of it all, children will have a chance to get up close and personal the animals, if they so choose!

Outer Limits - ages  3 and up | Members $175+tax Non-members $200+tax

We don't just live in Prince George, or even just in Canada-we live on planet Earth, in our solar system! Children will learn about our solar system, and about how air pressure works in the vacuum of space. We will place an assortment of things in the vacuum chamber and play with the air pressure, and see what happens.

Fort George Railway Garden Party (Seasonal) - ages 2 and up | Members $225+tax Non-members $250+tax

Want to ride our train, meet a conductor, and talk to an engineer? This package includes a free ride for all of your guests on the Little Prince Steam Engine (weather permitting). Spend 2 hours of fun outside in our Explorers Urban Garden,
where you can enjoy some fresh air, stretch your legs, learn about our garden, and visit beautiful Lheidl T'enneh Memorial Park.

 

Policies:

  1. The birthday room opens up for guests at the exact rented start time (either 9:30 AM, 12:00 PM, or 2:30 PM). Our guarantee is to have the room available and birthday ready at exactly the start time and no later. We provide:
  • A big colourful sign with “Happy Birthday” on it.
  • A smaller “happy birthday ____” with the guest(s) of honor’s name on it.
  • Balloons (as of November 2019 we will begin phasing out single-use plastics wherever possible, including balloons. We will provide an alternative colourful decoration in the future in order to keep the room feeling festive.)
  • 3 round tables (4’ across) with chairs.
  • A shelf, approximately 1’x8’ with black linen, which can be used for displaying food, holding gifts, etc.
  • If you need an extra table, we have 8’x2.5’ banquet tables for an additional fee of $9 each, and linens (black or white) at $9 each.   

      2. The room is permanently decorated with a bright, colourful mural on the wall and planets hanging from the ceiling.

      3. The room is directly connected to the (shared) museum kitchen. We have a designated facility rental refrigerator which you are free to use (please note there is often facility rental supplies, including liquor, in the refrigerator. Any and all contents within the refrigerator other than what the guests bring in are strictly off-limits.)

      4. We request that the kitchen be kept as a child-free zone. Technically the kitchen is a bonus, not a guarantee, of the rental. If you would like to use the counter, sink, stove/oven, refrigerator, & freezer (top freezer in a fridge/freezer combo), please let us know. The freezer is part of the staff fridge and is not guaranteed to have room.

      5. If you have an ice cream cake, we recommend putting it in the refrigerator so that it has time to soften before serving.

      6. The 2-hour rental time is largely unsupervised by The Exploration Place staff, so the room is free for the guests to enjoy as they like. Birthday staff will:

  • Introduce the host(s) to the room, kitchen and go over basic rules
  • Check what time the party would like to have the presentation (beginning, middle, or end of rental)
  • Perform the presentation
  • Reset the room (guests are responsible for their own belongings, but all garbage/disposables/mess is the responsibility of The Exploration Place Staff.)

    If the guests need anything and a birthday party staff person is not available, please check in with Front Desk staff.
     

 

FAQ

 “Do you provide loot/goodie bags?”

Unfortunately, no, the museum does not provide anything of the like. However, we do supply up to 20 Gallery child passes (depending on the number of child guests), which allow children in for free next time, and this can be put in the goodie bags.

“Can I have more than 20 kids and 20 adults at my party?”

Due to the size of our rooms, we should only have a maximum of forty people inside the room. Even this is quite full, and we recommend 15 kids & 15 parents on average.

“Will our belongings be safe in the room?”

We are not responsible for any losses, and there is a possibility that someone could take something. The staff will attempt to prevent strangers from entering the room, but there is no way of being certain. We do ask that birthday guests check-in at the front desk and

“Can we stay longer?”

We’re sorry, but no. There may be other birthday parties after, and for this reason, we cannot allow you to stay longer than your scheduled time. You may remain in the galleries, but you cannot keep the room.

“Who is responsible for the children during the party?”

You are. The interpreters (the staff) can only lead the hands-on, planned activities, and may assist you during the party, but you are responsible for moderating the behavior of your guests, and the whereabouts of the children at all times, especially when they explore the galleries. The staff cannot watch over the children when you are on a bathroom break, they may be able to “check-in” occasionally, but they have other duties and obligations they must fulfill.

“Do I need to clean up afterward?”

Don’t worry about that! Leave the preparation and clean up to us, relax and enjoy the party with your child and guests. However, you are responsible for the removal and the whereabouts of your belongings.
