Science Odyssey with The Exploration Place

Science Odyssey is a national campaign that celebrates Canadian achievements in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, featuring fun and inspiring experiences in museums, research centres, laboratories and classrooms from coast to coast. Every year in May, hundreds of science outreach leaders deliver fun, engaging and inspiring activities to Canadians of all ages.

From May 1st to 16th, the Exploration Place is hosting multiple virtual and do-it-yourself activities for free! Below is a schedule of each activity and release time/date. Some activities require registration.

May 3rd @ 9am: Bee-Bot Bop | REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Join Jaclyn for a quick and easy introduction to coding robots. We will use an online emulator to control our Bees around our mats. Runs 30mins. Live event. Registration required – zoom webinar format.

May 5th: Colouring Sheets (Do-it-yourself activity)

It’s contest time! Choose one of these Animal Ambassador colouring pages and send it to us at to be entered into our #OdiSci prize draw!

May 8: Bug Scavenger Hunt (Do-it-yourself activity)

A fun way for children to explore the outdoors from a new perspective. As they go on the hunt for some bugs, they themselves will have to try and think like a bug. This activity will allow kids to learn about the habitats of specific bugs. They will be able to see the differences in many of these small creatures and learn to approach them with curiosity.

May 10: Virtual Adult Speaker Series | Freshwater Misfits that Fit so Well | REGISTRATION REQUIRED

As some of the world’s rarest species, freshwater semi-aquatic mammals live in some of their most threatened habitats. Along with well-known species, such as the platypus, beavers, the common hippopotamus, and otters, more than 140 species of mammals around the globe make freshwater habitats their home.

May 15: Colours (Do-it-yourself activity)

If colours made a sound they would be loud! Prepare to get super creative and let your imagination run wild while exploring colours and all the fun things involved with them! This self-led program allows you to play around with colour science and activities while learning what colours are and how they're created!
