The Early Days: Forest Use in the Fraser-Fort George Region

Horse Skidding

A variety of methods were used to transport the logs from the forest to the sawmill. On flat ground near water, logs were skidded and dragged by horses directly to the water's edge. Log chutes were used to bring the logs down the steeper slopes into the water. As logging extended further back from the water, other methods had to be used.
