The Early Days: Forest Use in the Fraser-Fort George Region

Sawmills were built beside water. The water was used to float the logs to the mill, to store the logs, and to provide water for steam boilers that powered the saws. Logging and sawmilling operations were moved from site to site depending on the availability of timber. In 1923, the McLean Lumber Co. Ltd. commenced at Shelley, on the backwater of the Fraser River. |
