T he boards cut in the sawmill were rough. To produce smooth lumber, the McLean family also operated a planing mill. After leaving the sawmill the lumber was dry piled in the lumber yard. From there it was brought in and run through the planer to make it smooth. From there it wa loaded into the boxcar for shipment.
