Children got jobs early

Harold Moffat was born in 1915. His father established Northern Hardware in 1919, and Harold worked in the store as a delivery boy,

"At an early age, we started down at the old store, I started anyway, filling oil bottles... I used to do the running between the oil sheds and the main store, and sweep the floors, that was the big indoctrination program for an apprentice," Harold told Ernie Burden of the Prince George Progress newspaper.

About three quarters of a century later, in 2002, Harold was still working at Northern Hardware as one of the owners of the store that's been in Prince George longer than any other.
